新吉士 (Hong Kong)

I have heard that the soup dumplings in 新吉士 are very good, so my family and I went there for lunch. They have a bright red and gold Chinese style décor. We got seated next to the window with a street view.




We ordered the 小籠包 (regular soup dumplings), 蟹粉小籠包 (crab roe soup dumpings), 鍋貼 (pan fried dumplings), 外婆紅燒肉 (old grandma’s red-braised pork), 寧波湯丸 (glutinous rice balls). From this selection, you can tell that my family and I love to eat dumplings.

The wrappers of the soup dumplings are thin, and the meat inside is pretty juicy. We like the crab roe soup dumplings better than the regular ones because the taste of the crab roe enhanced the aroma by adding a rich taste. The pan fried dumplings are crispy with a lot of soup inside. The soup dumplings and pan fried dumplings are good; however, we have had better ones elsewhere.





The old grandma’s red-braised pork is a popular dish of 新吉士, so we had a high expectation of it. However, we were pretty disappointed. The pork is overcooked and rough. The taste is also a little too sweet.




The glutinous rice balls are filled with sesame paste inside. The rice balls are soft and sweet. It gives a nice finish to the meal.
