亞坤 Kaya Toast (Singapore)

After visiting Little India, we took the metro to Chinatown in Singapore. We went to 亞坤 Kaya Toast at Far East Square for a second breakfast. As suggested by the name, 亞坤 is famous for their Kaya Toast, which is crunchy toast with a sweet coconut and egg paste. The slices of bread are put on a charcoal grill until it is brown. Then, it is served with the kaya paste with a thick slice of butter.

We went to the most original branch of 亞坤 Kaya Toast which is a chain coffee stall. The décor is old style and simple, with small wooden chairs and fans on the ceiling. They also put many nostalgic posters on the wall.

We ordered two Set A, each has 2 slices of kaya toast, a poached egg, and a milk tea. The kaya toast is extremely crunchy, and the kaya paste is slightly sweet with a very mild taste to it.

The eggs are poached perfectly and are barely cooked. The egg white is so soft and the egg yolk is oozing out. For the milk tea, the tea flavor is not strong but it has a milky taste.

The service at this coffee stall is pretty good, and the waitress offered to take a picture for us. We also bought a jar of kaya paste to bring home. However, making kaya toast at home is just not the same. It is impossible to make it as crunchy as the ones at 亞坤 and the kaya paste from the jar somehow tastes different.
